About Silambam Premier League

Silambam Premier League (SPL) is a professional martial arts league dedicated to the promotion, development, and global recognition of Silambam, one of the world's oldest traditional martial arts originating from Tamil Nadu, India.

SPL is a sister concern of WSS Sports Arts Science and Media Private Limited, an organization committed to the promotion of sports, traditional arts, culture, education, and media-related initiatives at national and international levels.

The Silambam Premier League is officially approved and recognized by the World Union Silambam Federation (WUSF), ensuring that the league follows standardized rules, ethical governance, and international sporting principles.

Heritage and Purpose

Silambam has a history of more than 2,000 years and was practiced by ancient Tamil warriors for self-defense, warfare, physical fitness, and discipline. It symbolizes speed, balance, precision, strategy, and respect. Despite its rich heritage, Silambam has not received adequate global exposure when compared to other martial arts.

The Silambam Premier League was established with the purpose of transforming Silambam into a structured, professional, and spectator-friendly sport while preserving its traditional and cultural identity.

League History

SPL Mini 1.0 - The Beginning

The first edition of the Silambam Premier League, titled "SPL Mini 1.0", was successfully organized by WSS Sports on January 26, 27, and 28, 2024, at the Madurai Fatima Indoor Stadium.

The event witnessed strong participation, enthusiastic athlete performances, cultural programs, and positive public response, making it a grand success in terms of execution and visibility.

Recovery and Restructuring

While SPL Mini 1.0 achieved major milestones in promotion and participation, the organization faced financial challenges during and after the event. In response, the management took a strategic decision to undergo a two-year recovery and restructuring phase to strengthen financial stability, governance systems, and long-term sustainability.
